Knierim and Frazier Continue History-Making Season in Torino

Alexa Knierim and Brandon Frazier have made history at every competition they’ve competed this season.

That trend continued Friday at the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final in Torino, Italy, when Knierim and Frazier became the first U.S. pairs team ever to medal at the Grand Prix Final, earning silver at their first time at the event as a team.

They had been together so little time, barely a season of true international competition when you factor in the year disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic, and yet Alexa Knierim and Brandon Frazier had still accomplished so much.

So, at the end of a whirlwind 2022 season, when they missed the national championships after Frazier contracted COVID but returned for landmark performances by a U.S. pair at the Olympics and world championships, they inevitably came to a career crossroads.

For Alexa Knierim and Brandon Frazier, this season has been golden. In February, the duo competed at the Beijing Winter Olympics, where they helped win a team medal for the United States (and placed sixth in their individual event). A month later, Knierim and Frazier won the 2022 ISU World Championships in France, becoming only the third U.S. pair ever to win a World title. Now, Knierim and Frazier are busy touring the U.S. as full cast members with Stars on Ice.

When Alexa Knierim and Brandon Frazier had their tryout in March 2020, it took just one lap of crossovers for them to think, “Yeah, this is going to work.”

They were right. On Saturday at Beijing’s Capital Indoor Stadium — less than two years later — the duo placed sixth to record the best U.S. pairs finish at an Olympic Winter Games in 20 years.

Scimeca and Knierim developed feelings for each other very quickly, but as they were still very early on in their partnership, Alexa couldn’t be totally sure if the feelings were mutual.
